Immediately after this, at about 6.00 pm., all the children were treated to the buffet dinner. All members of the organizing bodies helped to take food for all the children. And in the shortest of time, everyone was served with food. There were many varieties of food, cakes and local delicacies. Some members even brought their home-cooked food for this occasion. The General Manager of Giant Hypermarket, Nr Ng Kien Nam donated ample stock of mineral water for this function. We really appreciated his generous donation. Local fruits were aplenty and almost everybody was rubbing the stomach to show that they had more than enough food and their smiling faces indicated that they were very contented with the sumptuous feast. "This is the best food that we have ever tasted!" echoed everybody.
At about 6.30 pm., Lion Edward Lee went up on stage to recognize all the dignitaries who came for the function. DC Leadership Development R8, Koo Chi Seng and Region 8 Chairperson Jaclyn Ng also attended our function. They were the best persons to vouch for us that the Christmas Party was very well-organized.
Right after this, the Live Band took to the stage again to play some musical numbers which was then followed by performances of Berkat Children's Home and Pusat Kebajikan Care Haven. Shortly after this, President Tan Chai Kek of Kiwanis Club of Johor Jaya went up on stage to give her "Vote of Thanks"
The excitement of the event came at the strike of the clock at 7.00 pm. While the Live Band was performing "Santa Claus is coming to town", we could hear the jingles of the bell as "Santa Claus" suddenly appeared and mingled with the children. He was none other than Lion Loh Yoong Meng from Lions Club of Masai who dressed up as the adorable and respected "Santa Claus". The children were screaming with excitement as he approached them. Gifts, toys & goodies were distributed to all the children and adult who were present.
Our Secretary, Lion Rachel Yap also solicited 50 packs of goodies from her colleague, Miss Yeo Sze Enn. These goodies were thrown into the big, bulky bag of "Santa Claus" to be randomly distributed to the children. We appreciated the good deed done by Lion Rachel Yap.
When the excitement quietened down, some young leaders of YMM (Young Malaysian Movements) took to the stage to summon all the children to come forward to participate in the games initiated by them. The response was too overwhelming as the majority of the children participated in the games. The smiling faces encompassed with their cheerful mood indicated that they were really having a jolly good time. Every child was very happy as every one of them received at least a gift or two and there was a galore of gifts & presents sufficient to last until the very late of night for more games to be played.
The games finally ended at about 8.45 pm when the last carols were sung. Some members of the YMM suddenly carried Organizing Chairman Lion Sam Tay and tossed him up in the air three times to signify that the event was successfuly carried out.
The moral of the story is that Christmas can be celebrated by all mankind irrespective of race & religion. It was time at about 9.00 pm to say "Goodnight, and till we meet again".
