Owing to the shortage of blood in the blood banks of our local hospitals coupled with the plea by DC Blood Bank & Organ Pledge, Lion Tan Chun Tak, our club embarked on the 2nd project of Blood Donation Campaign.
When Lion Bowie Tey of Lions Club of JB Taman Century (he is also a member of Pure Karma Buddhist Centre) contacted our club to conduct a joint project of Blood Donation Campaign with his centre together with Hospital Sultan Ismail, our club wasted no effort in agreeing to this Blood Donation Campaign.
Five banners were designed by Lion Edward Lee and were hung at some strategic points surrounding and leading to the Pure Karma Buddhist Centre to let the public know about this Blood Donation.
The campaign started well without any hitches. Lion Bowie Tey waited at the Police Station of Taman Desa Cemerlang to lead the entourage of the staff of Hospital Sultan Ismail to the destination, as it was their first time to this new place. Everything was set up and all stations, such as registration, blood type & haemoglobin tests, blood pressure test, issuing of books of donation records and 6 beds were ready to receive the donors.
After a short breakfast at Taman Gaya, we, President Liza Lau, Lion Edward Lee, Lion Richard Chiang and Lion Rachel Yap, proceeded and reached the destination exactly at 10.00 am. The project started sharp on time and everything went on very smoothly. Lion Gan Chin Siong came at about 11.00 am to give us a helping hand. We did most of the registration. Lion Richard Chiang was one of the earliest persons to donate blood and Lion Gan Chin Siong was also coaxed into donating blood for the first time.
At about noon, we were all really surprised to receive the family group of Lion V. Ravindran. It was such a noble way of celebrating Deepavali by bringing all his family members & brothers to donate blood. It was their festive day and yet they came to save lives. Their good deeds should be highly appreciated and emulated. Our heartiest congratulations to them for showing us the way of saving lives.
The blood donation was closed at about 3.00 pm and it had attracted 55 donors. 4 donors were rejected because of low haemoglobin and thus we collected 51 bags of blood for the blood bank of Hospital Sultan Ismail.
